Re: Samba not sharing printer or Shares

Not looking good. Numerous smb.conf edits attempted from suggestions I've gotten elsewhere. No effect. This isn't gonna fly.

Re: Samba not sharing printer or Shares

I don't know enough about samba but from reading all that you wrote it sounds a little like a permissions issue. If it is unfortunately I'm not good with permissions either. But some files are being seen and others aren't sounds like permissions. Just a guess though. One of the first things I thoug...

Re: Samba not sharing printer or Shares

Okay, the plot thickens. Below is a series of posts I've made to a Usenet group as I've been rasslin' with this. It started with the inaccessibility I was originally faced with, that Grizzler solved almost immediately. But it's become stranger after that: ====begin===== >>> >>> Evidently the firewal...

Re: Samba not sharing printer or Shares

Could be a firewall problem. What happens if you sudo ufw allow CIFS and reload the firewall? Bingo. That got me most of the way there. Attached shared printer shows up and can be configured. Shared files are now showing up. From my MX w/KDE laptop I still can't print, and I can only see a very sma...

Samba not sharing printer or Shares

New convert to SolydK64. My experience for the past several years has been with MEPIS 11 (Squeeze based) and it's been ages since I've had to wrestle with this stuff... so I need some handholding. Bottom line is that samba doesn't appear to be working. I have an HP LaserJet 6p (old reliable workhors...

Re: Best version for Samsung N145 Plus

...i've now got my Samsung N145 Plus running Solydk with samsung SSD (120Gb) and 2 Gb RAM. Its not the fastest machine around but it has extended its life by at least a couple of years. It's extended its life by as long as the hardware lasts. Unlike with Windows, your system's performance won't deg...

Re: Screen display is huge [SOLVED]

I've been running only sgfxi NOT smxi -- that's what you intended correct? I repeated with sgfxi and since everything was already downloaded it didn't have anything new to download - same result however. First boot ok, next boot is problematic. Yes, the standalone graphics installer, sgfxi, is what...

Re: Screen display is huge [SOLVED]

Gotchya. I didn't think about you trying to do it with a wireless connection. When I run it I always use a wired connection, even if it's only temporary.

I've never done it that way. Is there any reason you didn't just run 'sgfxi' as instructed?

Re: How to disable "Topic reply notification" emails?

I'm still getting notifications of replies to my first Introduction post, but not the others. I told the UCP to not notify me after making that post, but before the others. Evidently that setting only works for posts made after making the change.

Re: Why did you finally stay on Solyd stable ?

So, its now stable for me all the way and, as I have no need for the "latest and greatest", I simply enjoy having systems I can rely on which just run without complaint day in, day out. :-) Same here. My old Squeeze based MEPIS system was solid as a rock and only recently started showing its age as...

Re: How to disable "Topic reply notification" emails?

Thanks. Yes, I did have those settings ticked. I got an email this morning -- after making those settings last night -- but I haven't gotten any about the replies to this new topic. So maybe it's finally decided to take me seriously. <shrug>

How to disable "Topic reply notification" emails?

Subject line says it all. I thought I'd gotten that accomplished, but they're still coming. Been through the UCP several times and am not seeing it. No doubt another PEBKAC event... sigh.

Re: Screen display is huge [SOLVED]

I've found using the sgfxi script to install video drivers directly from the source to help numerous display oddities on a number of different hardware platforms. The simplest instructions are here (from my old stomping grounds): http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php?title=Sgfxi#sgfxi Note also tha...

Re: MEPIS Refugee now in the SolydK fold

uncle mark: I will add my welcome and I trust that you will enjoy using SolydK. You should feel amongst friends as there are, I believe, several ex-Mepis users here. I jumped ship from Mepis around 2008 and, having run Ubuntu for a few years, ended up here running SolydX as I prefer XFCE to KDE. So...

Re: Slightly annoying problem with dual monitors.

I fought this myself just the other day when doing this new install.

The problem is with the Task Manager Settings. Under Filters, it will have

Only show tasks from the current desktop

checked. Uncheck that and you should be good.

MEPIS Refugee now in the SolydK fold

Greetings to All -- I've been a die hard MEPIS user for the last ten years. As some of you may know, the MEPIS project was abandoned some time ago. I've been running the old Squeeze based MEPIS 11 for the last 4-1/2 years, and it's been like wearing a favorite pair of old, comfortable shoes. I hate ...
