Re: Amarok throwing errors after recent update

Thanks. I need to run out but I'll check it out over the weekend. I miss using Amarok.

Re: Amarok throwing errors after recent update

Perhaps I didn't get an Amarok update when I thought I did, but something definitely changed last month because before that I was able to use Amarok without issue. I've considered blowing away Amarok and starting fresh but I have a lot of podcasts in the database and I'd really rather not lose that ...

Amarok throwing errors after recent update (oldstable)

After getting an update to Amarok 2.8.0-8 (I think I got it last month) I get a database error every time I try to launch it. KDE Amarok database error 20200226_124748.png After doing some checking I found Debian bug #793451 has been filed, resolved and closed. Checking the Debian packages I see ver...

Re: Is there a way to change the highlight for selected text in Gimp?

Thanks, Pagaresav, but you completely missed the point of my question. I ended up just changing my font to black so it shows up through the highlight then changing it to the color I want to use. It's a bit of a kludge but it's a viable workaround. I'd change the title to show the issue's resolved bu...

Is there a way to change the highlight for selected text in Gimp?

I often work with text in Gimp but it's a royal PITA trying to select the right font when the highlight color makes it impossible to see what the text looks like. A case in point:

Where would I change the color showing what text is selected?

Re: My old laptop is WAY behind!

I'm getting tearing across the entire system so I'll try installing that driver. Unfortunately, I spent much of yesterday on that laptop so I need to put that on the list to do later.

Re: My old laptop is WAY behind!

Actually I seem to have (Nuveau?) drivers working well. Should I still try the 304 drivers?

I am seeing some text issues I don't know where to fix. This is what my Discovery app looks like as I search for widgets on my other laptop.

Re: My old laptop is WAY behind!

I installed SolydK 10 from a nightly only to find out my video chips are too old for Debian Buster. In fact nvidia-detect tells me it needs the old 304 legacy drivers that are only supported as recently as stretch so I'm grabbing a SolydK ISO and I'll do a reinstall with that.

Re: My old laptop is WAY behind!

Hi Arjen! My main system has been working so well and I've gotten so busy that I've only poked my head in here when things start turning pear-shaped. I'll have to see what I've got for backup media (thankfully I don't need much room for that on the old laptop) and for creating the install "disk." My...

Re: My old laptop is WAY behind!

Thanks. tomorrow I'll dive into that process.

ETA: It turns out I have to stay up until my hair dries. Am I seeing correctly that the proper command for simulating the dist-upgrade is

Code: Select all

 sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -s

My old laptop is WAY behind!

When I bought my new laptop in 2015 I help on to the old one and tried to keep it fairly up to date, but eventually I simply put it away and didn't do much with it. Tonight I saw that there were updates but when I tried to apply them I got complaints about not seeing the Jessie repos. Yep, this beas...

Re: Can't hear my headset's microphone

From the derth of suggestions, I'm going to assume it's time to call Amazon and arrange a return. I'll make sure the next set I buy is Linux friendly.

Can't hear my headset's microphone

I just bought a Nikuma K8 gaming headset from Amazon and when I plugged it into my ASUS X555LA laptop's USB port nothing happened. It turns out my laptop (with fully updated KDE) doesn't even see it when it's plugged in so I plugged the 3.5mm 4-pin headset into the combined headphones/microphone jac...
