Re: Sudo password to always change with main password

The current setup in SolydK/X where the same password is used for both the main user AND to get system-wide root privileges can be easily changed in such a way that one can still (at the login screen) only logon to a main user. Sudo + <user_password> will provide root privileges as before in SolydK/...

Re: Debian security flaw - GnuTLS

I understood from the gnutls site that version 3.2.12.1 would be needed for the stable branch...
Don't know about the testing branch.

Re: [TESTING] FF 27.0.1, FF-ESR 24.3.0, and TB 24.3.0

[on SolydK64] As I said before: I do hardly use Firefox (only sometimes) and I do not use Thunderbird at all, but I goofed up (that was before the March 2 warning issued by Schoelje) trying to update FF and TB. Somehow the TB install brought along a lot of gnome libs as well as lightdm packages. I f...

Re: [TESTING] FF 27.0.1, FF-ESR 24.3.0, and TB 24.3.0

I don't think the following issue is specificallly related to the latest updates of FF/TB. The previous Thunderbird had it as well. I don't actually use Thunderbird as email-client (I use Gmail for email), but I do wonder why there is no thunderbird-l10n-en-us language pack (using the " std. testing...

Re: the beginning stages of a complete meltdown of SolydX sy

There's at least one typo in your sources.list. Why don't you replace deb http://packages.solydxk.com nmain upstream import with deb http://packages.solydxk.com main upstream import in your sources.list file Notice the difference? main instead of n main in the first line.... While you're editing you...

Re: MX14Beta1 now Beta2, Beta3, RC1(?)

I Installed MX-14 pre-beta3 .iso on my test-system. Runs fine. I'm not sure whether this beta3 will still be made available as a public beta3 release. Over the last 2 weeks a lot of fixes and updates went into it, resulting in a pre-RC1 version (via a pre-beta3_pre-RC1 patch). I installed pre-RC1 he...

Re: Installer does not reformat partition chosen as /home

[.......................] There's always room for improvement. Can you give a better description of how other installers seperate "old data" from the new installation? The concept is interesting but without specific descriptions/language it's difficult to visualize. The Mepis/antiX installer is wri...

Re: Installer does not reformat partition chosen as /home

Mepis and antiX do have such an installer. It's the same one actually, originating from Warren Woodford (Mepis), but heavily modified by Paul Banham (anticapitalista from antiX). The installer is quite different from the one used in SolydXK, and is a lot faster. On my systems it takes 20-25 min. to ...

Re: Installer does not reformat partition chosen as /home

OK - thanks. It takes a little 'getting-used-to' (for me)....:-) Note: I was used to a system where always / and /home partitions were reformatted at installing a new distro. An additional aid in the installer was a button stating "preserve data in home partition?". That ensured that the " old-user"...

Re: Google Chrome vs. Firefox

so in practice, firefox + xmarks + siphon = chromium sync, imho.
Thanks, just! I'll have a look at that.

I've only used the native FF syncing capabilty (which sucked), not any extension that would improve syncing - and then I gave up on FF.

Re: Installer does not reformat partition chosen as /home

OK - I understand this assumption, but that still does not explain the difference in handling between / and /home. Other distros do handle this better, more complete and more consistently. Without loss of data, but old data are separated from data of the new installation; they're not mixed. No refor...

Re: Google Chrome vs. Firefox

The superior (and easy) syncing of Chrome has always been THE argument (for me) to use Chrome. I hardly use Firefox because of the user-unfriendly way they implement syncing. ("Go back to the original machine used for setting up syncing....."). I use Chrome on all my computers, in Windows and in Lin...

Installer does not reformat partition chosen as /home

The current installer used in SolydX/K does not reformat a chosen, separate /home partition. If you install /home on an existing partition that has not been previously reformatted, then already existing files on that partition will - to a large extent - still be there after installing SolydK or Soly...

Re: MX14Beta1 now Beta2

Never mind the snakey stuff..........:-) Looks like the MX-14 beta3 public release will be coming up soon. I used the beta2-beta3 patch to create the beta3 .iso; then burned the "pre-release beta3" to a CD (678 MB). Booted the live-cd on my laptop. It's getting better all the time...:-). Time to ins...
