First Impressions SolydX

Hi guys, just want to share a few thoughts and suggestions. I like the Solydxk distro very much so the following is merely constructive criticism, not bashing the distro :-) I love KDE but do not want my Xfce to look like KDE :-) I would encourage you guys to consider some basic tweaks to the defaul...

Re: One tune a day ...

I think the Vevo videos are all on youtube, and since I finally figured out how to embed videos with youtube I'll just use that site :-)

Sorry Night Wing. It's a legitimate site, owned by Sony I believe. It worked fine in Chrome for me, sorry it caused your browser problems :(

Re: Watcha reading?

I'm working on finishing God Emperor of Dune. I hope to someday work my way through Asimov's Foundation books again. Very often books continued by other authors fall far short of the original series. I understand that is the case with the extra Foundation books not written by Asimov.

Re: Watcha reading?

Hinto, yes tastes vary widely regarding SciFi. Herbert could keep me interested with his crazy religious desert folk. I like one of the quotes in the book, this might be a slight paraphrase as I'm working from memory: "When religion and politics ride in the same cart the whirlwind follows." That pre...

Re: Watcha reading?

I didn't hate the 1984 movie, but I didn't love it either. It is definitely an 80s movie with the Toto synthesized music. But after seeing the later Dune miniseries version I thought: Yeah, that's how it should have been done.

Re: Watcha reading?

fleabus, I agree about the Troopers movie. I tried to watch it and couldn't believe how bad it was.
I was more pleased with the miniseries format for Dune and Children of Dune. I thought those were handled pretty well.

Re: A question concerning testing

Thanks for this info guys, it helps me better understand what you are doing. It seems to me you really need a lot of testers for these update packs to cover as much hardware and potential problems as possible. I've got an extra laptop to repair and once It's up and running I want to help with testin...

Re: How to get involved with monthly Solydxk testing?

Thanks! Just to be clear in my thinking, the testers periodically change their sources to do the testing? or they stick to the SoldXK testing-specific repo throughout?

Re: How to get involved with monthly Solydxk testing?

I'm probably dealing with some mental fog tonight, but trying to understand how you guys do the testing--are you talking about downloading a new proposed SolydXK iso and testing it every quarter now? Or are you talking about a group of people who run SolydXK with sources set always toward Testing? t...

Re: need to fix grub after installing another distro

Recently reformatted a hard drive, split it into 3 partitions and a swap partition. After you install your first distro, say SolydK, if you install others simply don't install grub when you install them, that would keep SolydK, or whatever you choose, on top. You just need to update-grub on the firs...

Re: Watcha reading?

I used to read more, but I think the Internet is giving me ADD by constantly reading short articles and switching subjects :) Recently reading Asimov and Tolkien. I like my Kindle Paperwhite and tablets. That Moon+ Reader app is great, I like the text-to-speech function when the eyes are tired. Fbre...

Re: UP process change

Yes, keep the distro at a pace you can keep it going. As long as security updates are coming regularly I don't mind quarterly updates.

Re: ZDNet Reviews SolydXK

Just wanted to say "hi!" back to you guys. Thought I had subscribed to this thread but must have forgot to click the box.
The distro is working great for me so far. Wondering how the overall stability has held up for those who have used it from the start?

Re: ZDNet Reviews SolydXK

Nice review! Made me want to try Solydk again. Tried it awhile back and had a few bugs, but it looks extremely well polished and is working very well now. Good job!
