Re: Bonjour from Canada

Bienvenue Pascale. I am also from Canada - Bas St Laurent/Gaspesie. I am really enjoying using solydk-BE. It is very stable, few issues and does everything I want. The forum has also proven to be a friendly and helpful place. Linux is an ever opening learning experience for me and I think for most p...

Re: Pure free SolydK BE/BO

Interesting topics. I work for the Canadian government and I think there is a snowball’s chance in hell that they would even consider a switch over to a FOSS model. I think that applies for most of the developed world and most larger businesses too. There may be a few exceptions like Munich or the G...

No Sound Webex

I know sound issues are recurring in many debian derivatives and it is no exception for me. I need to make webex (cisco) video conferences quite frequently and I cannot really use linux for it. I also have skype issues (cannot make a test call - madame skype does not call me back :( ). To participat...

Re: Pure free SolydK BE/BO

I would love for everything to be FOSS but one of the reasons I chose SolydK BE over just pure debian is that it has some of the hard work done for me that I would eventually end up doing myself in debian but probably in a really half-assed way and taking up a lot of time to do it. I am really happy...

Re: wireless driver problem

I did solve it very quickly thanks to everyone's help and (https://wiki.debian.org/wl) once installled on my machine. I could not do it off the live usb though. Not sure why this took me so long before but I have a better understanding of what is going on now.

Re: Libreoffice crashing

I forgot to mention that I am using solydk-BE and LO 4.1.2.3. But Gonzalo can duplicate it in 4.2.4.2. I will update to the latest version and see what happens.

Re: Libreoffice crashing

I have the same issue. I can pretty consistently make it crash when I have write open with 2 or more documents and have another new document (not yet saved) open. When I go so save that one and navigate through the directory structure to select where to save it, it takes about 3-5 seconds of navigat...

Re: need inexpensive copy of MS office 2010 - Canada

I haven't given up on libreoffice and will update to the new version. It has been crashing on me though. Document recovery usually takes care of it however and I save often. Got my MS office 2010 licence code today and installled with virtualbox/win7 and it works great. The only problem is all the s...

Re: need inexpensive copy of MS office 2010 - Canada

Seems that the $71 US is the best deal out there so I got that so far they do not seem to care where they sell to. Quite different than music online.

overview of kde workspaces

I came from more gnome style of workspaces and have been using xfce for about a year until my recent switch to kde. I am quite confused about workspaces in kde (though they seem very rich) especially in regard multiple monitor setups. I do not like to use multiple monitor setups and prefer workspace...

need inexpensive copy of MS office 2010 - Canada

I use libre office but unfortunately I am in a MS office environment. There are lots of documents with embedded graphics and tracked changes, and document templates and libreoffice just does not work well with them, it really buggers-up powerpoint presentations. My IT department turns a blind eye to...

Re: impact of adding then removing sid repository on BE

Thanks. I remove sid and updated (3 suggested updates of <1 mb total which I accepted). Seems to work fine so far. I have never severed ties to a repository before so I was worried what the impact might be. I suppose there is a small chance that the dependencies may have some bugs that make them sec...

impact of adding then removing sid repository on BE

So I need to run julia (math programming) on my machine but solydkBE could not satisfy the dependencies with the default reposistories. I therefore added the respository "deb http://ftp.ca.debian.org/debian sid main" and updated. julia runs fine now but I have 900 mb of other recommended updates. I ...

after sleep no input from keyb or mouse accepted

After my solydkBE install yesterday I have had this happen twice to me: the machine goes to sleep, I move the mouse around to wake it up but it accepts no input from the keyboard or from mouse clicks. I can move the mouse pointer around on the screen though. I have to hold down the power button to s...

I guess I have no excuse but to do other work this afternoon. So who made this linux stuff so efficient anyway ;) Shouldn't this tak...

Hey there fellow Canucklehead. Yeah, I would fall into the Canadians camp but root for just about any Canadian team except Toronto (sorry if you are from there but you are either for them or against them). Being from Halifax you like one of Montreal, Toronto or Boston. Still I live 600 km from Montr...

Re: wireless driver problem

Great. Thanks both of you. I should be able to try it this evening. As you can see by my first post I am on LMDE still but I live USB boot into solydk. Not sure if I can make those kinds of config changes with a live usb boot but will try. If I get this solved, I will replace LMDE with solydk on my ...
