Yes, I have a couple friends who live in Inwood. My best buddy is from Shreveport. He was my boss for 15 years before we retired to the couch, and farting about with computers... :)

Re: Matching parts - Avoiding bottlenecks

Mine is basically all ASUS stuff. I've always liked ASUS mainboards. Them, or Intel, or Giga-Byte always seemed to work best for me. If the MagicMicro folks take pride in what they're doing, and not just shoving stuff out the door then I have no problem with them at all. It's hard to find that thes...

Re: Matching parts - Avoiding bottlenecks

I have always done all the research and built my own since after I bought my very first one. Which was an old 486 Packard Bell, and it was a nightmare....lol That was the last Brand Name Computer, I have ever bought. Me too. The last one for me was a Northgate Slimline 386DX-33 with 4m ram and a Ma...

Re: Matching parts - Avoiding bottlenecks

We installed a Seagate SSHD ( Hybrid Drive) into that Macbook Pro. The change was like day and night. I was really impressed, and the SSHD's are quite a bit cheaper than an SSD. :) Seems like a very good compromise. I think I'll try one of those when I get a chance to buy something again. Nice to s...

Re: Not much going on in the forum lately

Please, don't ask any questions... I won't. Similar situation here, but not with guitars... Anyway, can be painful. For me it's books, all my huge collection of vinyl, and my beautiful old hifi stuff. I rue the days I got rid of a lot of things, but just had to schluff it off. It crowds t...

Re: Not much going on in the forum lately

Crunchbang Waldorf, still on sysvinit, boots faster than anything else I know. I have one main "goto" install on this drive, kind of an ongoing experiment, and also the controlling grub.. It's a SolydX64 which is still on sysvinit -- I stopped the DUs on 14 October, the day before the systemd chang...

Re: Not much going on in the forum lately

You forgot including Crunchbang in that "bests" list.  Yes, you're right. #! is one good solid light distro, with a great community, and yes, it's one of the best. I suppose I just like all those geeky little MX/antiX tools and utilities. And the community too. And Xfce. And... Well....

Re: Not much going on in the forum lately

As a former Mepis user I had the same thought. Of course I have also notice quite a few Mepis users here on the forum. And some Solyd users over at MX, including this one! :) Also, a few of the Mepis folks appear to be using Solyd, showing their impeccable good taste. ;) I have thought on the simil...

Re: Not much going on in the forum lately

Very interesting. Seems to gather in one place a lot of apt, aptitude, and dpkg functionality. Some handy commands.

Re: Breakages and News tracking Debian Testing

the real "unstable" in debian is actually the experimental branch. I always thought, from reading Debian docs, that experimental did not contain a full working distribution, only experimental packages, and so must be enabled temporarily with Sid (or whatever) to get them, rather than remaining cons...
