Try to use native Debian tool to work with animated cartoons. It is mainly one simple command

Code: Select all

plymouth-set-default-theme
To use it succesfully, it is neccessary to enter the root account in terminal. Only sudo is not enough.

To get help about the command

Code: Select all

$ su
Password:

# plymouth-set-default-theme --help
Plymouth theme chooser
usage: plymouth-set-default-theme { --list | --reset | <theme-name> [ --rebuild-initrd ] | --help }

  -h, --help Show this help message
  -l, --list             Show available themes
  -r. --reset Reset to default theme
  -R, --rebuild-initrd Rebuild initrd (necessary after changing theme)
  <theme-name> Name of new theme to use (see --list for available themes)
#
To get a list of all available themes

Code: Select all

# plymouth-set-default-theme --list

Here the themes which start with just-... are my own ones, made by hand. solydk-logo cartoon is used by default in SolydXK.

To set any cartoon from the list above as default

Code: Select all

# plymouth-set-default-theme just-rodina-transparent --rebuild-initrd
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-3.16.0-4-amd64

The newly installed cartoon (just-rodina-transparent in this example) will be used immediately, even on the first shutdown.

Debian keeps all Plymouth themes in the /usr/share/plymouth/themes/ directory. Each theme is represented by its own folder:

Code: Select all

$ ls -lha /usr/share/plymouth/themes/
total 17M

Don't confuse file names with theme names! Theme's name, visible and usable by plymouth-set-default-theme command, is given by the <theme-name>.plymouth configuration file. Each theme directory has this file within it. <theme-name>.plymouth may differ from theme's folder name. It's not an error.

So, basically you need to check two things:
  1. The theme's folder you're trying to set is present in /usr/share/plymouth/themes/
  2. Its name is visible for plymouth-set-default-theme command
If both conditions are satisfied, it should be possible to use the theme.

Sorry I went out of town during this post and don't have access to the computer.
I will get you the terminal output when I return next Wednesday.
Thanks for helping with this issue.
