[Proposal] Icedove [Closed]

Postby MagnumForce » 01 Sep 2013 16:46

Hi
Icedove is already available in Jessie packages version 10.0.12-1 but it is available for Wheezy and Sid version 17.0.8-1
Maybe we could have a newer and improved version (notifications)...

hi MagnumForce
icedove is already in the debian archive and at some point a newer version will migrate to testing;
actually you can follow here http://release.debian.org/migration/tes ... ge=icedove why it didn't migrate yet (it failed to build in some archs);
in such situation i believe that is not suitable for the community repo, see the guidelines http://forums.solydxk.nl/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1079
Thank you ;)

it's a package with a very complex history:
2 versions in squeeze, 2 in wheezy, one in jessie, 3 in sid; the same version in all 4 releases (10.0.12-1); a bit of a mess :mrgreen:

Eh why use Icedove when you got thunderbird?
All icedove is in the end is a rebranded thunderbird, and unless you are one of those 100% FSF nuts then it really serves no purpose.
And if you are a FSF nut then Solyd had plenty of non GPL software bundled like the codecs and all, so there you go.

probably before jumping the gun that way a bit of research would hurt http://forums.solydxk.nl/viewtopic.php? ... 096#p13087 (it's just a few posts, you can do it)
