I started SolydK in a VM (VirtualBox) and made a screenshot of a selection of the editor.

well, the only choice that give the word "quiet" at the end of the sentence after pushing tab is "boot without plymouth".

Tried inerting "noapic" and then "no_timer_check" in front of the two "--" then hitting enter.

Code: Select all

....quiet noapic --

Code: Select all

...quiet no_timer_check --
Also tried inserting those infront of the two "--", then moving the curser to the right of the two "--" then hitting enter.

Code: Select all

....quiet noapic --

Code: Select all

...quiet no_timer_check --
Also tried...

Code: Select all

...quiet nomodeset --
both ways....

still a no go

I don't know much about your system and linux, but when I googled for it, I came across these links that might be of interest:

Awake now. Sorry for the slightly confusing post.
"nomodeset" might be worth a try. Some of the newer kernels have been giving some graphics card monitor combos issues such as starting them with 0hz refresh rates, etc.

up-date

I have had 4 total, Dell Inspiron 1501 computers as an attempt at having more than one that runs linux, plus I was trying to get one that runs a 64 bit CPU.

Brief history. The computer I am typing this with is the only Dell Inspiroon 1501 laptop that I have ever gotten linux to run on.

It has 5 distros on it curently, all runing flawlessly, currently using SolydX which is my go-to op sys.

I can't remember what happened, but something tipped me off to the possibility that I could put the Turion CPU into this machine and it might work - ding, ding, ding!!!

It works perfectly. NOW I was able to install the 64 bit version of SolydX, yay!!

Ok, so...what is the deal with the other machines?

I have not done the research, but I supose that if I looked into it, I would find that this machine has a different BIOS revision, or a different video card.

I just got lucky with this one I guess.
