Solydx as 4th OS

Postby GreenTree » 03 Feb 2020 17:56

Dear people,

On a old comupter, with MBR partition, I’ve tried to install SolydX as the 4th OS. It didn’t succeed, because the installer proposed to install Grub on a partition where I have installed my 3th OS. There was no possibility to install Grub on dev/sda.

How can I install SolydX as my 4th or 5th OS on a computer with MBR and will it be the same for a computer with Guid-partition/EFI?

Thank you very much.

IIRC you need to boot the livecd in mbr mode. After that you can proceed with usual installation

Are you sure there is a free partition? Please post the output of

Code: Select all

sudo fdisk -l

Thank you for your answer.

I’ve used a DVD and the system automatically choose MBR.

In the meantime I’ve installed Solyd on that old computer as the 3th OS (first I delete the 3th OS with GParted). There was no problem. He proposed to install Grub on /dev/sda. He boots good and thank you for that nice Grub-menu.

There was and still is a free, 4 th, partition.

…………...

Code: Select all

:~$ sudo fdisk -l
Disk /dev/sda: 232,9 GiB, 250059350016 bytes, 488397168 sectors

Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disklabel type: dos
Disk identifier: 0x05000500
Device Boot Start End Sectors Size Id Type
/dev/sda1 * 2048 206847 204800 100M 7 HPFS/NTFS/exFAT
/dev/sda2 206848 258111487 257904640 123G 7 HPFS/NTFS/exFAT
/dev/sda3 258113534 463859711 205746178 98,1G 5 Extended
/dev/sda4 463859712 488396799 24537088 11,7G 82 Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/sda5 258113536 287993855 29880320 14,3G 83 Linux
/dev/sda6 287995904 375926783 87930880 42G 83 Linux = SolydX
/dev/sda7 375928832 463859711 87930880 42G 83 Linux = Free
Partition table entries are not in disk order.
If there is a solution, maybe SolydX is my 4th OS on my not-old computer.

You can install SolydX on /dev/sda5.
SolydX 10
